LICF is Awarded Remainder in Class Action Settlement

A portion of the settlement in a class action securities fraud case was distributed to the Long Island Community Foundation for general grantmaking. Judge Thomas C. Platt of the United States District Court for the Eastern District of New York awarded the remainder to the LICF because the defendant in the lawsuit is a Long Island business, and the LICF could distribute the funds for the benefit of Long Island.
