Senior International Fellows Visit the LICF

November 07, 2006

The Center on Philanthropy and Civil Society at The Graduate Center of City University of New York, CUNY, has a program where international fellows come to New York to study philanthropy and nonprofit management. Once again, the Long Island Community Foundation hosted the fellows for a day-long discussion about diaspora charity, where countries of origin solicit immigrants to give back to their homelands. Diaspora giving can even include newly arrived urban dwellers giving back to their rural communities.

This year's fellows were senior executives from a variety of countries.
*Gabriela Berrondo, Vice President, Fondo de Estrategia Social, Mexico City, Mexico
*Jasna Ja_arevi_, Executive Director, Community Foundation Simin Han/ Tuzla
*Ary Kahan, Tecamachalco, Edo. de Mexico, Mexico
*Catherine Kiganjo, Programme Officer, Institutional Development and Governance, Nairobi, Kenya
*Helena Monteiro, Coordinator of International Cooperation, Institute for the Development of Social Investment, Sao Paulo, Brazil

The Center on Philanthropy and Civil Society has forged a global community of researchers and practitioners working to strengthen philanthropy. The LICF is proud to have been included three years in a row as part of this important program.
