LICF Non-Advised Grants for 2006

February 01, 2007

In 2006, the Long Island Community Foundation awarded $964,600 in competitive grants through its various programs: community response "critical issues, critical communities, critical organizations," LIUU progressive social change, Henry Philip Kraft Memorial Fund for environmental programs, and special purpose grants.

Critical issues funded by LICF grants included aging of Long Island's population, access to quality education, institutional racism, transportation, women's rights, youth violence, affordable housing, and the needs of new immigrants. 25% of LICF's total grantmaking budget went to supporting organizations engaged in these issues. Grants to assist critical communities totaled 16% of grantmaking and critical organizations received 13% of grants.

Long Island Unitarian Universalist Fund for progressive social change distributed $230,300, or about 26% of LICF's total non-advised grants.

Environmental grants accounted for 20% of LICF's grantmaking, or $177,350.
