Farming the Future Wins Silver at New York Festivals and is Nominated for a New York Emmy

February 02, 2007

Rudaitis Media, an LICF grantee, was awarded a silver medal for its documentary “Farming the Future” in the category of the environment and ecology by The New York Festivals. The awards were announced on Friday, February 2, 2007, at an evening ceremony in New York City.

Now Rudaitis Media has been nominated for a New York Emmy in the category of documentary film. The awards will be announced at the 50th Annual New York Emmy Awards on April 1st.

“Farming the Future” examines the history, present, and future of farming on Long Island. The region remains New York State’s most lucrative agricultural area, yet the pressures on farming families to sell their lands to developers and foreign competitive endanger this essential aspect of the local economy. Ron Rudaitis, the producer/director of the documentary, interviewed current farmers whose families have been working the land for generations. William Baldwin, the actor who grew up in Massapequa, (and who opened a fund in the Long Island Community Foundation along with some of his high school friends) narrates the film, which also features Willie Nelson, the organizer of Farm AID.

The New York Festivals International Film & Video Awards recognize "The World's Best Work" in informational, educational, and industrial film productions and corporate video. The competition also covers short film, feature-length film and home videos. Now approaching its 50th anniversary, the Film & Video Awards sees entries from over 30 countries around the world.

The New York Emmy is about to celebrate its fiftieth year of recognizing the best in television, film, and video.
