Purpose:

In 1993, the Long Island Unitarian Universalist (LIUU) Fund was established as a advised field-of-interest fund within the Long Island Community Foundation by the Unitarian Universalist Veatch Program at Shelter Rock. Its purpose is to offer support to organizations or groups of individuals working for progressive social change on Long Island, and to further the principles of Unitarian Universalism through grantmaking.

Unitarian Universalists believe that social change is brought about by engaging the roots of a problem rather than the symptoms, and that people affected by the problems must be involved in creating the solutions.

The Principles Of Unitarian Universalism:

  • a belief in the inherent worth and dignity of every person;
  • justice, equity and compassion in human relations;
  • acceptance of one another and encouragement of spiritual growth;
  • a free and responsible search for truth and meaning;
  • the right of conscience and the use of the democratic process;
  • the goal of community with peace, liberty and justice for all;
  • respect for the interdependent web of all existence of which we are a part.
