While thousands of nonprofit organizations all over Long Island are trying to meet the needs of our community, they are also struggling to obtain the support needed to run their own agencies, and, in turn, accomplish their missions. Fortunately, there’s the Long Island Community Foundation, which supports local nonprofit agencies, while giving community members a venue in which to help.

The book “Welcome to the Ronald McDonald House” was written to help families and children dealing with the challenges of illness.

Children’s author Babette Douglas was introduced to the Ronald McDonald House of Long Island by Teresa Reid, community relations manager at the Manhasset Barnes & Noble bookstore. Douglas, a Sayville resident, was inspired to write a book that would help children feel at home as they began their experience at the house.

The book is illustrated by Long Island illustrator and artist John Johnson.
